Savvy & Safe: Session 3 — Scams Targeting Residents in Mexico

Living in Mexico comes with wonderful rewards — and a few very specific scams worth knowing how to spot. In Session 3 of Savvy & Safe, we’ll look at the cons most common in Mazatlán and among residents living abroad, including phone and text scams, fake police or “mordida” extortion, INM and visa fee fraud, timeshare resale schemes, rental deposit scams, ATM skimming, romance scams, and the increasingly convincing grandparent scam using AI voice cloning.

This practical, no-shame session is designed to help you build a simple recognition reflex: pause, verify, then respond. You’ll leave with clear steps for what to do, what not to do, and who to contact if something feels suspicious.
